Specialty program
Borderline personality disorder and co-occurring substance use concerns, addressed through coordinated psychotherapy and psychiatric care.
Specialty Program
When borderline personality disorder and substance use concerns occur together, both deserve attention in the same treatment plan. Dr. Phillips combines Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy (DDP) with his addiction psychiatry expertise to provide individualized care.
DDP
Research: 2008 controlled trial · 30-month follow-up.
DDP is a structured, one-on-one psychotherapy that works by helping patients develop a richer, more nuanced understanding of their emotional experiences — breaking down rigid, all-or-nothing thinking that drives self-destructive behavior and addiction. Unlike many approaches that treat BPD and addiction as separate problems, DDP addresses the core emotional and relational patterns that underlie both.
Building the capacity to identify, tolerate, and articulate complex emotional states.
Addressing the unstable, intense relationships that characterize BPD and fuel relapse.
Rebuilding a coherent, stable sense of self that isn't dependent on substances or crisis.
Medication management and MAT woven into the same treatment plan — not siloed separately.
